As the Cincinnati Bengals prepare for their first preseason game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Saturday night, the players got their first experience on the new turf at Paycor Stadium.Thursday's practice marked the first of training camp inside Paycor Stadium, where the Bengals installed new turf as part of offseason renovations.According to Bengals head coach Zac Taylor, Wednesday's walkthrough was the first time that members of the team and coaching staff had stepped foot on the new turf.In February, Hamilton County commissioners approved the field renovations as part of stadium improvements funding that was approved earlier in the winter.The new FieldTurf CORE system was installed ahead of the 2024 season. FieldTurf had previously served as the stadium's surface from 2004 to 2011.With the move, the Bengals became the eighth NFL team to use FieldTurf, joining the Atlanta Falcons, Carolina Panthers, Detroit Lions, New England Patriots, New York Jets, New York Giants and Seattle Seahawks.Speaking on Thursday ahead of the first preseason game, Taylor said he has a plan in place for the starters on Saturday, including quarterback Joe Burrow, but declined to go into too many specifics.In previous years under Taylor, the Bengals have generally shied away from playing the starters in the preseason, instead preferring for them to get their work in during training camp practices."I’m excited for it," Burrow said.
